National Media Literacy Lesson

UNICEF and the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine have invited Ukrainian schools and teachers to join the Media Literacy Week and receive certificates and gifts. They created a school lesson to teach Ukrainian students to distinguish between fakes and truth.

Students of the 9th grades of our lyceum together with the teacher Iryna Mazur used various interesting tasks in the English lesson, thus joining the National Media Literacy Lesson.

The project was created with the support of the United States Agency for International Development USAID Ukraine and ING Bank together with the New Ukrainian School and the NGO "Smart Education"

FLEX - 2021

The Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX) is a program for high school students funded by the United States government.

The program provides students with scholarships that allow them to travel to the United States, attend an American school for one academic year, and live with an American family.

For safety reasons related to the coronavirus pandemic, in autumn of 2021, the FLEX program will conduct online testing for the 2022-2023 school year. The application form consists of a questionnaire and writing three small essays on given topics in English within 10 days from the date of application.

Students of our lyceum Zhurakovska Arina and Torba Stanislav successfully passed the stage of the first round and completed the tasks of the second round of the competition.

High Note Quest

The task was to pass the quest about the High Note textbook: give 5 correct answers to 5 questions and take part in the drawing of one of the 100 textbooks.

Based on the results of the draw, you will receive a High Note textbook.

10th grade students took part in the quote contest and Andriy Petrunko became one of the winners of the creative competition from MM Publications Ukraine for students of 10-11 grades was held from February 8 to 28, 2021. The participants were awarded with some gifts for praising their skills in English.

Project Competition 2021

Every year Oxford University Press organizes the competition to get creative in class and motivate students to enjoy using their English. This year pupils had to work in a group (2 to 4 students) and
- imagine they can invite anyone they’d like to their online video call, why they have chosen them, and what they’d like to ask them.
- make a list of four people from past or present you’d like to invite.
- create (e.g. draw/dress up as) your people and write one question you’d like to ask them and what their answers might be.

Surely, we took part in the creating posters. Students of the 8th forms together with their teacher Iryna Mazur began the work. After creating individual stories and pictures, two projects were made using the poster template and sent to the organizers of the Project Competition by 31st March 2021. Our entries are hand drawn and produced on a computer.

Project № 1 is made by Khrystyna Hrytsak, Anhelina Yurashchuk, Sviatoslav Hasiuk, Maria Kovalchuk.

Project № 2 is made by Arina Zhurakovska, Serhii Koval, Oksana Stasiuk, Karina Senchak.

All the participants were presented with the Certificates.

The winning entry and runners-up will announced by Friday 29th May 2021.

Students of the 10th form finished to learn the unit making short projects about nature. All the papers were remake into one presentation.

English for Media Literacy. Results

During the project implementation, 8 trainings were conducted for 50 English teachers, which allowed to acquaint the project participants with the basic concepts of infomedia literacy, as well as showed possible ways to integrate elements of infomedia literacy into English lessons. The project team also compiled a glossary of terms of media literacy "Glossary of Media Literacy" and a designer of exercises "Media Literac Toolkit in the EFL Classroom", which are recommended for publication by the Academic Council of Prykarpattia University. The latter includes the developments of scientists of the department and English teachers, project participants.

Materials were developed within project “English for Media Literacy” (the project manager – Diana Sabadash) under the grant program of the “Learn to Discern in Schools” project, implemented by IREX (International Research & Exchanges Board) with the support of the British and U.S. Embassies, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Academy of Ukrainian Press and in cooperation with the English Philology Department of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and the NGO “Centre for Communication Research”.

It contains the original works of the University Associate Professors (Diana Sabadash, Iryna Malyshivska, Volodymyr Goshylyk, Uliana Tykha, Tetiana Marchuk, Nataliia Goshylyk) and the English language school teachers (Uliana Dulenchuk, Tetiana Kalynuik, Oksana Pasichniak, Anna Kyrpa, Mariia Vintonovych, Iryna Mazur, Lina Melega), who participated in the project “English for Media Literacy” and later developed new teaching resources. These tasks are targeted at secondary school and University students with various English levels.
